Sunday’s shooting at Club Ritz - Who should the black community blame?
On Sunday May 16, 2010, a young black man, Dexter Burroughs was shot dead on the nightclub’s dance floor. The community is outraged and that's a good thing because I sometimes wonder if some of us have become desensitized to a young, black man's murder. “Hey did you hear that a young black man got shot and killed? “Yeah and it’s supposed to be sunny tomorrow.” Let's never have that casual conversation.
Who should we blame? I understand misplaced anger. When a tragedy happens in our family or in the community, some of us need someone or something to blame. Sometimes the blame is warranted or misplaced. Sometimes both.
Club Ritz. The club owner has a responsibility to the club goers and to the community to make sure everything is operating on the "up". I don't have to explain what this means. C'mon people you know what this means. This is not an accusation against the business but a charge to the business owner to cross all "moral" and "legal" T's, and dot the I's. And NO I don't think the Ritz should close
The Parents. We are charged as parents to parent. We must parent our offspring. I know that it's possible to parent and still have a loved one end up in prison, or worst the morgue. However, we cannot condone behavior from our young people that is immoral or illegal. This is not an accusation against the Burrough's family. CAJD's extends it's condolences to the family.
Finally, and you didn't think I would end without asking where is the outrage from the persecutor to find the shooter? Oh the person was black that was shot. No outrage from Deters.
